Commerce Entrance Exams 2027

Which entrance exams should a Class 12 commerce student take, and by when? This page covers the main routes for 2027 admissions, which means tests held between late 2026 and mid-2027: CLAT, AILET, Christ University and IIM Bangalore are this November and December, while CUET, IPMAT, JIPMAT, SET and NPAT are expected in spring 2027. For each exam you get what it leads to, who can apply, how the paper is built and the dates that matter. Confirmed dates come from official notices, Tentative dates are official but may move, and Expected dates are our projection from the last cycle.

Which exams should I shortlist?

Start from what you want to study, not from the exam. Each card names the routes that lead there, whether you need Maths, how long the course is, the marks and subjects to check, and what to do next. Details for every exam are further down.

  • B.Com, Economics or BMS at Delhi University and other central universities

    CUET (UG)

    Maths in Class 11–12
    Depends on the course. Each university names the CUET papers it counts for a course, so check the list for every course on your shortlist before choosing papers.
    Course length
    Set by each university.
    Marks and subjects
    CUET has no age limit and no stream rule. Universities add their own marks and age rules for each course, and say which CUET papers count.

  • BBA, B.Com or Economics at a private university

    Christ University · NMIMS NPAT · Symbiosis SET

    Maths in Class 11–12
    Depends on the programme. NMIMS needs Maths or Statistics passed for B.Sc. Finance, BBA (Fintech), B.Sc. Economics and BBA Finance, and states no Maths condition for BBA or B.Com. Christ and Symbiosis set it per programme.
    Course length
    NMIMS: 3-year degrees with an optional fourth Honours year. Christ and Symbiosis: see the programme page.
    Marks and subjects
    These are 2026 general-category baselines; category relaxations are on each institute's page. NMIMS: at least 50% in Class 12 for most programmes, 60% for BBA (International Business). Symbiosis BBA at SCMS Pune: at least 50% (45% for SC and ST). Christ: set programme by programme.
    Next step
    Christ's form closes on 25 November, 5 pm, and its test is on 5 December. NPAT and SET have not announced 2027 dates; in 2026 SET's tests were on 2 and 10 May and NPAT registration closed on 26 May.

  • A management or data degree at an IIM

    IPMAT Indore · IPMAT Rohtak · JIPMAT · IIM Bangalore UG

    Maths in Class 11–12
    Not required as a subject for the IPM tests, but every one has a quantitative section. IIM Bangalore's BSc programmes need Mathematics in Class 11 and 12 and at least 60% in Class 10 Maths.
    Course length
    IPM at IIM Indore: five years, ending in a BA and an MBA. IIM Bangalore BSc: four years.
    Marks and subjects
    These are 2026 general-category baselines, and reserved categories get relaxations. IIM Rohtak: at least 60% in Class 10 and 12 (55% for SC, ST and DAP). IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak and IIM Bangalore all set an age limit of about 20 that moves each year, with extra years for SC, ST and PwD at IIM Indore and SC and ST at IIM Rohtak; see each card.
    Next step
    IIM Bangalore's form has closed (its test is tentatively on 15 November). IPMAT forms opened in February in 2026 and JIPMAT's in April, so use the months before them to practise.

  • A law degree

    CLAT · AILET

    Maths in Class 11–12
    Not required. CLAT does have a Quantitative Techniques section of about 10 to 14 questions.
    Course length
    Five-year integrated degrees.
    Marks and subjects
    At least 45% in Class 12 for CLAT and AILET. Reserved categories have lower cut-offs: CLAT 40% for SC, ST and PwD; AILET 42% for OBC and 40% for SC, ST and PwD. Neither has an upper age limit.
    Next step
    CLAT's form closes on 31 October and AILET's on 10 November. CLAT is on 6 December and AILET on 13 December.

  • Chartered Accountancy

    CA Foundation

    Maths in Class 11–12
    Not required as a subject. Paper 3 covers business mathematics, logical reasoning and statistics.
    Course length
    A professional qualification in three levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Final.
    Marks and subjects
    You must have appeared in the Class 12 exam before your first attempt, and registered for the Foundation course before the session's cut-off. ICAI's guidance names no marks or subject condition beyond Class 12.
    Next step
    The January 2027 session closed to new course registrations on 1 September and needs proof of appearing in Class 12 by 1 December, so students whose Class 12 exams are in 2027 should plan for a later session. ICAI's course FAQ (last updated September 2024) sets 1 January as the registration cut-off for May and 1 May for September; confirm on icai.org.

NTA has not announced CUET (UG) 2027 dates. In the 2026 cycle, applications ran 3–30 January 2026 and the test was held 11–31 May 2026.

  • Choose up to five papers in all, including languages and the General Aptitude Test.
  • You can pick papers irrespective of the subjects you studied in Class 12; the course you apply to decides which papers count.
  • Every paper has 50 compulsory questions. Domain papers follow the NCERT syllabus.

This is the 2026 paper. The 2027 notice may change it.

Who can apply and how selection works
  • Class 12 passed, or appearing in 2027. The test itself has no age limit.
  • Each university sets its own course rules, including age, marks and which CUET papers count. Check the requirements of every course on your list before you choose your papers.
  • Each university publishes course-wise rules on which CUET papers count and how merit is worked out.
  • Delhi University allocates seats through its CSAS (UG) portal using CUET scores.

  • Counts are for the B.Com paper, with the BBA paper in brackets. Economics, law and other programmes use their own section mix.
  • The test date and slot are set by the system and shown on the e-admit card, released on 3 December.
Who can apply and how selection works
  • Eligibility is set programme by programme and published on each programme's page on Christ's admissions site. Read the criteria for your B.Com, BBA or Economics programme before you apply.
  • The application needs clear scans of your Class 10 and Class 11 final report cards (or your Class 12 result if you have it); applications without them are rejected as Not Eligible.
  • Shortlisted candidates attend a Skill Assessment (a short written piece), a 90-second Micro Presentation and a 10-minute Personal Interview, in person at the centre chosen in the application.
  • Missing your allotted slot counts as Not Selected; slots cannot be changed.

IPM, BBA and management aptitude tests

  • 2026 rule: born on or after 1 August 2006 (five years' relaxation for SC, ST and PwD). Expect the date to move forward a year for 2027.
  • 2026 rule: Class 12 passed in 2024 or 2025, or appearing in 2026. Expect the same three-year window, a year later.
  • Interview shortlist (2026): aptitude score weighted 25% Quantitative MCQ, 25% Quantitative short answer, 50% Verbal Ability.
  • Final merit (2026): aptitude test 65%, personal interview 35%.

IPMAT Rohtak 2027

  • BBA, B.Com, BBA-MBA, Management & Marketing, Branding & Advertising and BA Liberal Arts: at least 50% in Class 12 (2026 rule).
  • B.Sc. Finance, BBA (Fintech), B.Sc. Economics and BBA Finance: at least 50% in Class 12, with Mathematics or Statistics studied and passed.
  • BBA (International Business), a dual degree with Kingston University London: at least 60% in Class 12.
  • Students appearing in their final Class 12 exams can also apply. Check your programme's row in NMIMS's handout, since the criteria are set per school.
  • The highest of your attempts (the main test plus up to two retakes) counts towards each school's merit process.
  • SAT or ACT scores are accepted as an alternative route.

Symbiosis SET 2027

Symbiosis International (Deemed University)

SET 2027 dates are not out. In 2026, registration closed on 15 April, admit cards went live on 24 and 30 April, the two tests were on 2 and 10 May, and results followed on 20 May.

  • Each Symbiosis institute sets its own criteria. For the BBA at SCMS Pune (2026): Class 12 from any recognised board with at least 50% (45% for SC and ST).
  • Other institutes, including the economics and liberal arts programmes, list their own criteria on SET's eligibility page; check yours before you register.
  • Symbiosis institutes shortlist from SET scores for their own group discussion, personal interview and written ability rounds.

Law entrance tests

CLAT 2027

Consortium of National Law Universities

The common test for the five-year integrated law degrees at the Consortium's member National Law Universities. It is open to students from any Class 12 stream.

  • NLU seats are allotted through the Consortium's counselling, by CLAT rank and your preference order.

AILET 2027

NLU Delhi's own test for its five-year BA LLB (Hons). NLU Delhi does not admit undergraduates through CLAT.

The FAQ says corrections are allowed after the 10 November closing date, for three days, without naming the days. 11 to 13 November is our reading of that, so it is marked tentative.

The first level of the Chartered Accountancy course. ICAI holds Foundation three times a year, in January, May and September; these are the January 2027 dates.

  • Papers 1 and 2 include 15 minutes' reading time from 1:45 pm; papers 3 and 4 have none.
Who can apply
  • Registration: you must register for the Foundation course with ICAI before the session's cut-off. For January 2027 that was 1 September 2026 (or conversion from CPT), which has passed. ICAI's course FAQ (last updated September 2024) gives 1 January for the May session and 1 May for September; confirm on icai.org.
  • Class 12: your first attempt comes after you have appeared in the Class 12 exam. Registration alone does not make you eligible to sit.
  • Exam form: you can fill it before results as a provisional applicant, but your Class 12 admit card or marksheet (proof that you appeared) must be uploaded on ICAI's portal by 1 December 2026 for January, or the admit card is not issued. Students whose Class 12 exams are in 2027 should plan for a later session.
  • No subject condition is stated beyond Class 12, so commerce, science and arts students are all covered.

How to prepare

Most of the tests test the same few skills, so a shared foundation covers a lot of ground. Then add what is specific to the exams you are actually sitting.

What most of these tests share

  • Quantitative reasoning (arithmetic, algebra, data interpretation): IPMAT, JIPMAT, NPAT, SET, IIM Bangalore, Christ and, as Quantitative Techniques, CLAT.
  • Verbal ability (reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary): IPMAT, JIPMAT, NPAT, SET, IIM Bangalore, Christ and CLAT, plus CUET's English paper.
  • Logical reasoning: JIPMAT, IPMAT Rohtak, NPAT, SET, IIM Bangalore, Christ and CLAT.
  • General awareness and current affairs: CLAT, Christ and SET, plus CUET's General Aptitude Test.

What needs separate preparation

  • CUET domain papers (Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics) follow the NCERT syllabus, so board revision counts directly towards them.
  • IPMAT Indore has a separate short-answer quantitative section with no negative marking; practise it apart from the multiple-choice section.
  • CLAT adds Legal Reasoning (about 28 to 32 questions) and a current-affairs section of similar size.
  • CA Foundation is four subject papers (Accounting, Business Laws, Quantitative Aptitude, Business Economics), two descriptive and two objective, so it needs subject study as well as aptitude practice.
  • Christ's B.Com paper includes Fundamental Accounting, and its later rounds (a short written piece, a 90-second talk and an interview) reward practice at speaking and writing under time.

How to learn from a mock test

  • Sort every wrong or skipped question by cause: you did not know the concept, you made a careless slip, or you ran out of time.
  • Fix concept gaps from your notes or NCERT first. Careless slips need a checking routine, and time problems need a better order of attack.
  • Re-attempt the questions you got wrong a few days later without looking at the solution.
  • Track section scores across mocks rather than one total; a section that stays flat shows where to spend the next week.

If you are starting late

  • List the forms that close first and apply only to exams that fit your goal and eligibility; use the shortlist above.
  • Spend your time on the sections that appear in most of your exams (quantitative, English, reasoning) before exam-specific topics.
  • Keep board preparation going. Your Class 12 marks count at some institutes: IIM Rohtak's 2026 rule gave Class 10 and 12 marks 30% of the final merit between them.

A dated plan for Class 12 commerce students

A dated sequence that fits entrance preparation around Class 12 board exams. Dates for 2027 tests are projected from 2026 until each notice is out.

  1. Now to mid-November 2026

    Close the forms that are open

    • Law: the CLAT 2027 form closes on 31 October and the AILET form on 10 November. Apply only if a law degree is on your list.
    • Christ University's Session I form for entrance-test programmes closes on 25 November at 5 pm; its online test is on 5 December.
    • CA Foundation: if you are already registered with ICAI and have appeared in Class 12, the January exam form is open from 3 to 16 November (late fee until 19 November). If your Class 12 exams are in 2027, plan for a later session instead.
    • Choose the routes that fit your goal and eligibility from the shortlist above. Application fees run into thousands of rupees per exam (AILET ₹3,000 and IIM Indore ₹4,130 in 2026), so apply to the ones you will genuinely prepare for.
    • Keep the Class 12 syllabus moving. CUET domain papers follow NCERT, so board revision is also CUET revision.

  2. December 2026 to January 2027

    Law tests, pre-boards and the CUET form

    • Christ University's test is on 5 December and its in-person rounds run 11 to 13 December; CLAT is on 6 December and AILET on 13 December.
    • Watch for the CUET (UG) 2027 notice. In 2026 the form opened on 3 January and closed on 30 January.
    • Take one timed aptitude mock a week (quantitative, verbal and reasoning) if IPMAT, JIPMAT, NPAT or SET is on your list.

  3. February to March 2027

    Board exams first

    • Give board exams priority and fill entrance forms in short sessions around them.
    • IPMAT forms usually open in February. In 2026, IIM Indore's ran 2 February to 14 March and IIM Rohtak's 6 February to 6 April.

  4. April to June 2027

    Test season

    • In 2026 the season ran SET (2 and 10 May), IPMAT Indore (4 May), IPMAT Rohtak (10 May), CUET (11 to 31 May) and JIPMAT (7 June). Expect a similar spread in 2027, and check for clashes once the notices are out.
    • NPAT registration ran until late May in 2026; plan its attempts around the other tests.
    • Move to full-length mocks under real timing, two or three a week.

  5. June to August 2027

    Results, interviews and seat allocation

    • IPM interviews (June in the 2026 cycle) and university counselling, including Delhi University's CSAS (UG) for CUET scores.
    • Use the DU College Finder to sort colleges by your CUET score.

Common questions

Are 2027 admission exams held in 2027?

2027 admissions means the academic year that starts in 2027, so some tests fall in 2026. CLAT (6 December), AILET (13 December), Christ University (5 December) and the IIM Bangalore test (15 November, tentative) are all this year. CUET, IPMAT, JIPMAT, SET and NPAT have not announced 2027 dates; based on the 2026 cycle they are expected between about April and June 2027.

Which 2027 entrance exams can commerce students take?

CUET (UG), IPMAT Indore and Rohtak, JIPMAT, CLAT and AILET don't restrict which Class 12 stream you come from. Christ, NPAT and SET set eligibility programme by programme, and IIM Bangalore's BSc programmes need Mathematics in Class 11 and 12.

Do I need Maths in Class 12 for these exams?

For most of them, no. IPMAT, JIPMAT, CLAT and CA Foundation don't ask for Maths as a subject. The exceptions are IIM Bangalore's BSc programmes (Mathematics in Class 11 and 12, and at least 60% in Class 10 Maths) and some NMIMS programmes (B.Sc. Finance, BBA Fintech, B.Sc. Economics and BBA Finance need Maths or Statistics passed). For CUET, the course decides which papers count. Separately, most of these tests contain quantitative questions even when Maths isn't required: IPMAT, JIPMAT, NPAT, SET and Christ have quantitative sections, CLAT has Quantitative Techniques and CA Foundation's Paper 3 covers business mathematics and statistics. Basic maths practice helps either way.

How many subjects can I take in CUET (UG)?

Up to five papers in all, counting languages and the General Aptitude Test (2026 rules). You can choose papers regardless of your Class 12 subjects. Each paper has 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes, with +5 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one.

When will CUET (UG) 2027 dates be announced?

NTA hasn't announced them yet. In the 2026 cycle the form ran 3 to 30 January and the test was held 11 to 31 May, so expect the 2027 notice around the turn of the year. This page is updated when it's out.

Is there an age limit for IPMAT?

Yes, each of the three IIMs that set one uses an age limit of about 20. For 2026, IIM Indore required candidates born on or after 1 August 2006, and IIM Rohtak set a maximum age of 20 on 30 June 2026, with relaxation for reserved categories. IIM Bangalore's limit for 2027 is 20 years or younger on 1 August 2027. Expect the IPMAT cut-off dates to move forward for 2027, but wait for the notice to confirm.

Can I take CUET and IPMAT in the same year?

Nothing stops you applying for both; each has its own form, fee and rules. The 2027 schedules aren't out, so check for clashes when they are. In 2026 IPMAT Indore (4 May) fell just before the CUET window (11 to 31 May). The quantitative and English preparation overlaps, which makes doing both easier.

How many attempts do NPAT and SET allow?

NPAT gives one main attempt and two retakes and counts your highest score. SET has two test dates; you can sit both and your higher score counts.

Can a commerce student take CLAT or AILET?

Yes. Both are open to any Class 12 stream. CLAT asks for 45% in Class 12 (40% for SC, ST and PwD); AILET asks for 45% (42% for OBC, 40% for SC, ST and PwD). Neither has an upper age limit, and students appearing in Class 12 in 2027 can apply.

Can I write CA Foundation while I'm in Class 12?

Only after you have appeared in the Class 12 exam: ICAI makes that the point of your first attempt. Three separate things are involved. (1) Course registration with ICAI, which has a cut-off before each session: 1 September 2026 for January 2027 (passed), and per ICAI's course FAQ (last updated September 2024) 1 January for May and 1 May for September. (2) The exam form, which you can fill before results as a provisional applicant, uploading your Class 12 admit card or marksheet by 1 December 2026 for the January session. (3) Eligibility to sit, which needs the registration and having appeared in Class 12; registering alone does not make you eligible. If your Class 12 exams are in 2027, January 2027 is not the session to plan for. Confirm the later cut-offs on icai.org.
